Our Story

Embracing Nature's Beauty

Clough in Bloom has a big dream - to celebrate the beauty of nature and inspire individuals to create their own floral masterpieces.  We are not a commercial farm in the trditional sense, but aim to grow our flowers in a naturalistic way, allowing our plants to grow alongside a biodiverse fauna that simply wasn't here on the edge of our little hillside when we first put a spade into the ground ten years ago.  We love our bees as much as we love our blooms.

Our beginning was a small piece of land without birds or bees and where we were told that nothing could grow.  Over ten years, we have brought back bird song and softened the land around our home to give birth to our own view of a little paradise on the hill.

With a commitment to sustainable practices and a love for all things green, we are growing day by day.  Our aim is simple - to share our passion for locally  grown seasonal flowers.

Hi my Name is Karen,  I am a small scale flower farmer that grows seasonal flowers at my home in Rossendale.

My dream to develop a flower farm has deep roots, but this year I’ve taken the plunge and made it happen. I‘ve been interested in growing plants as long as I can remember and the thrill of developing a cutting garden fills me with such pride.

We moved to Rossendale 13 years ago, full of enthusiasm for living ’the good life’ on  a remote hillside.   I was soon put in my place by a local farmer who said,’ you won’t grow owt up ere - nothing grows up ere apart from grass - and thats not good enough to get a cow fat’.

Well, the challenge was on. Yes I have had to adapt to my surrounding to cope with the sideways rain and hefty winds, but two polytunnels later and a few developing hedges, I fulfilled a lifetime ambition of supporting local and national charities by opening the garden for the National Open Garden Scheme in 2021.

My passion for sharing the magic of growing and nurturing such a special thing as a garden began many years ago and grows year on year. The cutting garden is a place for people to come together and  share a love of the beauty we find around us.  Wandering through the garden, exploring the flower beds is my own little treasure hunt.  Having a beautiful bouquet at the end of each day brings my passion into my home.  Every day there is something different to see and Oh my goodness they smell amazing!!
